You may be considering hiring Attorney Keir for your immigration cases, questions, and problems. You’re probably used to going to local professionals for advice – doctors, dentists, lawyers. Local is great if you can find someone. However, many Filipinos – and others – have ongoing immigration cases in the United States but can’t find a U.S. immigration lawyer anywhere near to them.
Immigration lawyers are different from other attorneys. In the U.S. there are 50 states. Attorneys are licensed in one or more states. For many issues – divorce, drunk driving and other crimes, housing problems – you need an attorney who’s licensed in your state because the problem depends on your state’s laws. But immigration law is federal (national): the same rules apply across the Unites States. For this reason your immigration attorney can be anywhere in the U.S. or even in other countries – and you can be anywhere also. In fact Attorney Keir is licensed in Massachusetts but lives and works in Oregon – on the other side of the country.
Attorney Keir has many clients she’s never met – though it feels like we’re old friends by the end of the case. We communicate through video chat (Messenger, WhatsApp, Skype, etc), phone, email, and mail (or courier) when necessary. If you can use the internet, preferably Messenger, WhatsApp etc. – then we can communicate. You do need to be able to answer questions in writing, or have someone who can help you. There aren’t many forms or documents that need to be signed so usually you sign and send them all at once when we’re ready to send the applications to the government
It’s also a good idea to prepare for your interview at the embassy before you go even if you’re represented yourself on your case.
