As we can’t say enough times, no new laws have passed!  Don’t pay money to scammers who try to take your money for nothing.  In late June, the U.S. Senate passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill including much to like, as well as changes to dislike.  The best part is the comprehensive approach that changes the legal immigration system to allow the U.S. to meet its employment needs into the future, and to continue to reunite families.  There is a slow path to legal status and possible citizenship for the estimated 11 million immigrants in the country without legal status.  The worst part is the drastic and unnecessary increases in border security, which would turn the southern border into a militarized zone.

The U.S. House of Representatives has so far taken a piecemeal approach to immigration, and committees considered several bills in July.  All legislators are on break in August, so they’re hearing from their constituents about immigration, and will be back in Washington in September.

And contact your legislators to express your opinions – this is what democracy looks like!
