I was pleased to take part in a moving prayer vigil for humane immigration reform, on August 18 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  One mother, with three children at her side, told us how she is facing deportation after being involved in a minor traffic accident; the police were far more interested in her immigration status than in the accident or what was going on with her children, who were there.  The government continues to deport 400,000 people a year, such as this woman. Few are the “worst of the worst” criminals.  Many have U.S. citizen children who live in fear of being separated from their parents.
